1st 4YO point to point runner by POET’S WORD is a winner

POET’S WORD’s first 4YO point to point runner, TAURUS BAY (bred by Caroline Berry) ran out an impressive winner of the Goffs sponsored 4YO maiden at Comea point to point in Tipperary on Sunday.

Held up in rear until 3 fences from home, Jack Hendrick made a sweeping move on the winner on the outside of the field to dispute 2nd place jumping the 2nd last and took up the running rounding the home turn and ran out a ready winner of the race which was the fastest race of the day at the track.

Owned and trained by Denis Murphy, Taurus Bay was originally purchased privately by Kevin & Anna Ross on behalf of Ben Halsall. He was then offered for sale by Ben’s Boley Stud at Goffs Arkle Sale last year and was astutely purchased by Denis for €26,000.

Taurus Bay was bred by Caroline Berry of Berry Farms in County Down out of her Shantou mare Tea Time Tilly whom she purchased as a yearling for just €9,000. Caroline has been a great supporter of Boardsmill Sires over the years and in particular Poet’s Word who she has supported every year since he arrived at Boardsmill.

Whilst this was Poet’s Word’s 1st point to point winner, he has already sired 12 winners from 15 runners on the track. 9 of these winners hail from his UK bred crop of now 5YOs whilst his only 3 runners on the track from his 1st Boardsmill bred crop (now 4YOs) have all won, including the exciting Poetic Sound, winner of 2 races from 3 runs for Ger Lyons in 2024.
