Boardsmill Stud are delighted to announce the acquisition of multiple Group 1 winner POET’S WORD.
Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, Poet’s Word was one of the highest rated horses in Europe in 2018. His Gr.1 victories included the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes over 10 furlongs at Royal Ascot (where he defeated Cracksman) and also the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 12 furlongs where he got the better of Crystal Ocean (runner-up again this year to Enable). His final race was in the Gr.1 Juddmonte International at York where he lost nothing in defeat, giving weight and finishing 2nd to Roaring Lion.
Speaking of their new acquisition, John Flood said ‘Poet’s Word is an exciting addition to the stallion ranks in Ireland. He is a very attractive dark bay horse, standing over 16.1 hands high with good bone and a great walk. His Group 1 victories last year earned him a Timeform Rating of 132 and he improved every year from 2 to 5, winning on all types of ground and finishing in the frame in 16 of his 17 starts.’
Flood added ‘He comes from the Dubawi sire line with his first 3 sires all Group 1 winners over 8 to 10 furlongs and it’s a sire line free of Northern Dancer blood so he is a welcome outcross option for breeders.’
Poet’s Word will stand alongside proven Gr.1 sires Califet, Court Cave, Kalanisi and Mount Nelson.
