Poet’s Word 1st crop runners off to flying start

Poet’s Word’s first crop of 3 year olds in 2023 have got off to a great start on the racecourse. From just 12 individual runners, he has sired 5 winners and 5 more individual placed horses. Four of his five placed runners have finished 2nd.

Amongst his winners are the 3 time winning filly Lady Of Arabia (trained by Eve Johnson Houghton) who has won or been placed in 9 of her 10 starts. Pacini was an impressive winner on his only start in France and has since joined the Gordon Elliott yard for owners KTDA Racing. Other winners include dual winner Zabbie (R Hannon), One of Our Own (Rebecca Menzies) and Improvvisa.

His placed runners include Poets Prize who was subsequently sold to Evan Williams and his only runner to date in Ireland is the Shane Crawley trained filly Trishuli River who was narrowly beaten last week at Dundalk and looks a sure fire future winner.

Poet’s Word retired to Shadwell Stud in 2019 and his resulting crop (3 year olds in 2023) numbered just 20 registered foals. Having switched to Boardsmill for the 2020 season, he has 180 two year olds on the ground. His only runner from this crop to date has been placed.

Poets Word is very well represented at the upcoming National Hunt foal sales at Tattersalls and Goffs.
