Kalanisi achieved a memorable feat today- siring 3 of the 6 winners at Perth.
First off the mark was the Neil Mulholland trained Queen’s Magic in the Mares’ Novice Hurdle. This was the seven year old’s third career win and her 2nd consecutive win over hurdles. Ridden by James Best, Queen’s Magic won with relative ease and has never finished out of the first four in twelve career starts. Bred by Margaret Wilson, Queen’s Magic started her career with point to point handler Aidan Fitzgerald and finished 3rd on debut before falling on her 2nd start. She is a daughter of good race mare Black Queen, winner of the Galway Hurdle for trainer John Kiely.
The middle leg of the hat-trick was completed by the Lucinda Russell trained Katalystic in the 2m4f Handicap Chase. This was a belated first victory for the lightly raced 8 year old who was bred by Mrs Di Coltman and Mrs Graham in Scotland. Bought by his trainer at Tattersalls Ireland August Sale, the winner runs in the colours of Ronnie and Lorraine Young.
The hat-trick was completed by the Gordon Elliott trained mare Holy Motivation. Winning for the 2nd consecutive time at the Scottish track, the 6 year old mare runs in the colours of Pioneer Racing. The Louis Vambeck bred mare won a point to point as a 5 year old for Donnchadh Doyle and was subsequently bought by Aidan O’Ryan and Elliott on behalf of her owners for just £12,000. She has given her owners a lot of fun so far and there are sure to be more fun days ahead for connections. Being out of an Old Vic mare, she represents the same successful cross that has produced some of Kalanisi’s best performers including Kalashnikov, Brain Power and Kalane.
